Ordnance Survey Large Print Collection Update

Over the past few weeks we have been asking our readers to help us to identify settlements photographed by the Ordnance Survey.

These postings have proved extremely popular, and the results from these appeals have demonstrated the incredible power of social media.

The first photograph was identified in a little more than 24 hours by Kokoro Kimochi as covering St. Mary Hill, near Bridgend. It was taken on 13 May 1992, at an altitude of 8,00ft, film 92-093, frame 032.

Our second request was answered only 46 minutes after being posted on the Heritage of Wales website. Steve Bailey John kindly informed us that the photograph was of Jameston, South Pembrokeshire. After checking our records, it was confirmed that the shot was taken on the 2 February 1989, at 5,300ft, frame 026 from film 89-247.

The third mystery photograph took a couple of days to be answered by our Blog readers. It was identified as the village of Pentre-bach, west of Lampeter, Ceredigion. Our records show it was taken at an altitude of 8,100ft on the 6 May 1993, frame 086, off film 93-134.

Thank you all very much for your input and assistance.
